About
Jim is an academically trained metalsmith with a MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His working at Liberty Arts represents the next step of a journey which began in the early 1990’s at another public arts center, the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA.
Jim’s work deals with line. He looks to make a line, through manipulation by hand or hammer, come alive in original forms. Jim strives for lines that breathe life into objects and give viewers a new life experience: discovering anew objects by embracing their whimsy, aesthetic and function. He seeks lines that infuse everyday objects, such as spoons, vessels and rings, with uncommon fun and celebration.
Much of his work is Judaica. In that context Jim wants ritual objects to show present viability by using a contemporary design vocabulary that reflects traditional usage as well as current social conventions and themes.
