This season we are featuring talented studio artist Nanette Pengelley who joined Liberty Arts this spring! 

Nanette Pengelley

Nanette is a queer, Jamaican-American metalsmith and jeweler from south Florida. She went on to study in Quito, Boston, and Florence. After graduating from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in 2015 with her BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing, Nanette has been exploring her practice within her brand - Hew Jewelry

This fall you can sign up for a variety of fun classes...

Glassblowing

There is still plenty of room in our fall glassblowing class selection; from themed one-night Make Your Own classes, to introductory and advanced courses.  

Jewelry Making

Resident jewelers, Nanette Pengelley and Jim Cohen have a fall calendar full of introductory and intermediate jewelry classes available! 

Intro & Intermediate Wheelthrowing

The next six week session is beginning soon! Sign up for classes that meet weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays beginning in October.


Welding & Metal Casting

Three of our newest metal arts teachers have classes posted for the fall in Welding and Metal Casting. Learn beginning sculptural welding and get an introduction to small scale casting through these classes!y, doing demonstrations.

SCRATCH BLOCK CLASSES

Scratch block classes have begun! Ahead of the Iron Pour, members of the community have been excited to start carving their designs into sand scratch block molds, which will be used to create Iron tiles at this year’s Iron Pour

Hannah Joy Lehman's Exhibition 

This past August, Liberty Arts collaborated with the Durham Food Hall to exhibit Liberty Artist Hannah Joy Lehman’s work for a one-night event.  Hannah held a closing reception at The Little Gallery.

FALL AT THE FOUNDRY

Second Saturdays 

You can now regularly find Liberty Arts down at our Foundry! On the second Saturday of each month, groups of our artists will set up tables outside of the Foundry in Durham Central Park at 501 Foster street. Artists working in painting, ceramics, glass, and/or metal will have work to sell, and Liberty Arts merchandise will also be available. Ask us about the upcoming Iron Pour when you stop by!

3RD Friday Events

Kirk Denny will open their Provisional Show at Liberty Arts during September Third Friday. “Parts” is an exhibition of paintings based on internal family systems.

Visit Liberty Arts TONIGHT from 6 to 9 PM for the opening reception, or contact us directly for by-appointment gallery hours.


Friday, October 18, 2024 

Nanette Pengelley will open her Provisional Show at Liberty Arts during October Third Friday. She will exhibit a selection of works she has been creating since joining Liberty Arts.
