HELLO JANUARY

Though January has just begun, we have July on our minds and this month is going to be fun! From classes for all interests to a summer inspired 3rd Friday fundraising experience + special workshops– there is a lot happening at Liberty Arts this month.

A Beach Party in January

Friday, January 17th 6:00PM - 9:00PM

Durham Central Park

 

Join Liberty Arts for a night of heat, sand, surf rock and art in Durham Central Park! Ward off January’s chill with beach vibe beverages at The Glass Jug (location: 545 Foster Street) and bites from the Locals Seafood food truck. Surf’s up and we look forward to seeing you!

Special Fundraising Workshops

Scratch Block Workshop: Carve designs into blocks of resin-bonded sand. An hour later, watch your creation become a work of art during an aluminium pour in the Liberty Arts Foundry across the street from The Glass Jug. $100 per block. This is a Liberty Arts FUNdRAISER, so don’t delay and sign up today!

Other ways to support Liberty Arts this month

Mini Terrarium Workshop: Create mini beach scenes with colored sand topped with a wee succulent in a recycled jar or Glass Jug beer glass. $30 per jar. 

Sand Casting Workshop: Learn to make a small object using Delft Clay and pewter and walk away with a finished piece! $150 plus $25 materials fee.

Saw and Solder: Jim Cohen’s class is designed to give students an introduction to two of the basic elements of metal-smithing and jewelry making, sawing and soldering. 

 

Advanced Cup Making –(only 4 spots available ): This class is for intermediate and advanced level glass blowers. Two, four-hour sessions - Thursdays 1/9 and 1/16. Students will learn the steps leading to making symmetrical cups of various shapes, styles and sizes. In the process, students will grow more comfortable blowing thinner and how to maintain sufficient heat.

 

Intro to Welding + Plasma Cutting – limited seats available: This welding class will be a beginner to intermediate MIG welding class. You will learn the basics of operating a gas metal arc welder as well as a plasma cutter. Using these skills, we will create a metal bird suspended by rebar which one could put into their garden or yard.

 

Pottery Open Studio – Jan 10th: Open studio is the perfect opportunity to practice what you’ve learned in class as well as explore new pottery ideas. These classes fill up fast so sign up today or add your name to the waiting list.
