A Beach Party in January

Join Liberty Arts for a night of heat, sand, surf rock and art in Durham Central Park! Ward off January’s chill with beach vibe beverages at The Glass Jug (location: 545 Foster Street) and bites from the Locals Seafood food truck.

Friday, January 17th

6:00PM - 9:00PM

Durham Central Park

Get cozy under heat lamps on the taproom front porch overlooking the park. There, we’ll explore art-making workshops that incorporate sand.  Across the street at the Liberty Arts Foundry, engage with pourmasters Mike Waller and Tripp Jarvis and glassblowing instructor Leigh Hayes in an Artist Talkback. Learn how common, ubiquitous sand is the force behind such amazing industrial arts as glassblowing and metalwork. Then watch artists pour molten aluminum in the Foundry.

All evening, groove to live instrumental surf tunes by Thee Swelltones.

Workshops

Scratch Block Workshop: Carve designs into blocks of resin-bonded sand. An hour later, watch your creation become a work of art during an aluminum pour in the Liberty Arts Foundry across the street from The Glass Jug. $100 per block. Reservation required.

Mini Terrarium Workshop: Create mini beach scenes with colored sand topped with a wee succulent in a recycled jar or Glass Jug beer glass. $30 per jar. Reservation required.

Sand Casting Workshop: Learn to make a small object using Delft Clay and pewter and walk away with a finished piece! $150 plus $25 materials fee. Reservation required.
